Sometimes the simplest dishes are the ones that impress the most. Tuna tartare is one of those recipes: fresh, clean, and packed with flavor, yet surprisingly easy to make at home.
What makes it special is the balance — rich, buttery tuna cut with citrus and soy, nutty sesame for depth, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil to tie it all together.
For this version, we used BARI's Traditional EVOO, which adds a fruity, peppery finish that enhances the tuna without overpowering it.
What you'll need:
- 8 oz sushi-grade tuna, diced into ¼-inch cubes
- 2 tsp Bari Traditional EVOO (or use the sesame-infused EVOO)
- 1 tsp light soy sauce or tamari
- Juice of ½ lime
- 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds (or sesame seeds infused in olive oil)
- 1 small shallot, finely minced
- 1–2 tsp diced avocado
- ½ tsp finely grated fresh ginger
- Pinch of chili flakes or a few drops of sriracha (optional, for heat)
- Fresh chives or cilantro for garnish
Full Recipe:
- In a small bowl, whisk together EVOO, soy sauce, lime juice, and ginger.
- Add the diced tuna and gently fold until just coated.
- Stir in the shallot, avocado (if using), and sesame seeds. Taste and adjust seasoning.
- To serve, spoon into a small bowl or mold. Garnish with herbs, extra sesame seeds, and lime wedges.
Serving tip: Pair with crostini, cucumber slices, or taro chips for crunch.
This recipe proves that a dish doesn’t need to be complicated to feel special. With a few high-quality ingredients — especially a good olive oil — you can create something bright, fresh, and elegant right in your own kitchen.
Enjoy!
